The yellow naped amazon parrot can be a lively but noisy companion. . Amazons are also known simply as “green parrots”. The yellow naped amazon is fairly large and can reach 10 to 18 inches in length. As with most amazons, the yellow naped has a green body with lighter green on the lower surface. Their beak is large and black except on the lower part of the upper beak where the color is more beige. The yellow markings appear on the crown of the head and down the nape as the bird matures.
Yellow naped amazons are charming and intelligent parrots. They do however become very possessive of the person who feeds and cares for them. This behavior can be avoided if you can give the bird your utmost attention while out of its cage. The owner of a yellow naped amazon must also be careful to maintain dominance so as to prevent the bird’s tendency to become tempermental and aggressive. It is not uncommon for the yellow naped amazon to become very aggressive during breeding season and extra precaution should be taken.
The yellow naped amazon likes to be the center of attention and with their speaking and singing ability, usually are. They are considered a great all around bird, they enjoy the company of people as well as other birds. Yellow naped amazons are extremely entertaining and would make a great companion parrot for the right person.
