Quaker Parrots

The Quaker Parrot is an excellent choice as a pet and or companion parrot if you want the fun of a large parrot only in a smaller package.  Quaker Parrots are also called Quaker Parakeets, and Monk or Grey Breasted Parakeets.

Quakers are on the smaller size growing to about 11 to 12 inches in length.  The Quaker is similar in size to the Cockatiel only with a much studier body.  The Quaker Parrot is primarily green with pale grey on the forehead, cheeks and throat. There is some pale blue coloring found on the tail and flight feathers.  Rare but also available is a Quaker that is primarily pale blue.

The Quaker Parakeet lives for approximately 25 to 30 years and are very hardy birds. Handfed babies cost around $50 to $100 for the Green Quaker and a Blue Quaker could cost approximately $400.00. . Before purchasing a Quaker make sure you are aware of the laws in your state.  Quakers are able to adapt to living in different climates and are illegal to keep in certain parts of the United States. The southern states have large Quaker populations that pose a threat to their crops and native bird so are therefore not allowed as pets.

These little parrots are very intelligent and social birds. The Quaker has been known to open cage doors, do puzzles and appear to be quite fearless. Their noise level is considerated moderate and involves chirps and whistles. Quaker parrots have an amazing ability to imitate sound and human speech.  The Quakers talking ability is not the quality of an African Grey or Amazon but can be clearly heard and understood. They have been ranked in the top ten of parrots with talking abilities.

Quakers are very active birds and need space in which to play along with time outside of their cage.  Toys help to entertain them and stimulate their intelligence. They are delightful little parrots and for the bird enthusiast would make a great companion pet.
